Food Crime

2020 – ongoing

This series is part of an ongoing project initiated during the COVID lockdown. These images delve into expressions of rage within the domestic sphere. I explore toxic domestic situations that, while not always physically violent, are still abusive, yet are often overlooked and underestimated.

In this series, food is depicted as broken and violated. These images may represent acts of rage by an abused individual who is suppressing anger, or they may metaphorically symbolize a violent domestic environment. Food serves as a substrate to portray conflict and tension, issues that continue to permeate our society. The images playfully capture this tension, aiming to provoke reflection on our own feelings and actions—inviting viewers to consider whether they too may be complicit in such dynamics.

The use of black and white, which is atypical in food photography, heightens the eerie nature of these images.

Two of the photographs were shot with an analog camera, embracing a slower process that challenges traditional food photography and allows for larger prints.

The series has been exhibited in Singapore and Rome and has earned several recognition, among which the Tokio Photo Award.
